Here’s what you need to make mummy hot dogs for Halloween or really any spooky party:

  • Hot Dogs – You can use your favorite brand. We used Sabrett because they are one of my hub’s favorites, but you can use any brand you like. And if you want to get wild, you can even use sausage. Sabrett’s tend to be a bit longer and come in a pack of six. This was nearly perfect with a single pack of crescent rolls. If you use more, you might need to use another package of crescent rolls too.
  • Crescent Rolls – Like the hot dogs, you can use whatever brand floats your boat. We used store brand to save some costs. We find they taste about the same as the bigger brands out there, so not missing much.
  • Candy Eyes – You just sort of gently push these into the cooked crescant roll wrapping. You can also dip in a bit of water to help them stick. Another option is to use black olive rounds instead of candy eyes.

You really don’t need any equipment for these mummy hot dogs.

You probably have everything you need, including:

How to Make Mummy Hot Dogs

1. Cut the crescant rolls into strips.

Actual step one is preheat your oven to 375 or whatever the directions on your crescent rolls says.

As the oven heats, pop open the crescent rolls and carefully unroll the rolls.

It is OK if they break a bit.

They do not need to be perfect to wrap your mummies.

Once unrolled, cut the crescent rolls into thin strips.

If they are too wide, you can pull them gently apart to thin them out a bit.

You can set these on a plate while you make all your strips.

2. Wrap the mummy hot dogs.

You can press the wrapped strips a bit closer if you like or as needed.

You only need a single layer of wrapping, keep in mind it will expand and rise some in the oven.

Repeat until you run out of wraps or hot dogs.

3. Bake and serve.

If you make too many, you can freeze or refrigerate them.

They should stay fresh for about 3 to 5 days or 6 months in the fridge and freezer respectively.

To reheat, thaw any frozen mummy hot dogs and then either microwave for a few seconds or in the oven set to 300 for about 5 to 10 minutes or until warmed through.

Tips and Tricks

  • You can use pie crust if you prefer. If you do, remember, it won’t puff out as much. It also might be bit sweeter. We prefer using crescent rolls for the flavor and puffiness. Puff pastry would also work.
  • You don’t need to, but spraying the cookie sheet can help prevent sticking to the pan. You could also use parchment paper.
  • Don’t add the eyes until after the hot dogs have cooled just a bit. They will melt in the oven if you add them before baking. If you have any trouble adfixing them, you can wet their backs a bit and stick them on. The sugar will act as a light glue for the eyes.
