While some people enjoy a burger with no seasonings, I am not that person.
I want my burgers to have flavor without relying on toppings or condiments.
Our hamburger seasoning recipe makes sure that even the most basic burger will have more flavor than plain patties.
And sure you can use a premade burger seasoning but what about all the times you find yourself making burgers and don’t have a premade ready to go?
Or you want the flexibility of making a seasoning that you can control the amount of salt in.
Well, making your own homemade hamburger seasoning recipe lets you choose how much salt and really how much spice you are putting in.
And since it doesn’t use nearly as much salt as premade versions, you get genuine flavor in every bite.
Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies
To make our hamburger seasoning recipe, you will need:
- Chili Powder
- Onion Powder – You could sub in dried onion flakes if you want.
- Salt – We use sea salt or other coarse salts. If you prefer, you can skip salt or reduce how much you use.
- Black Pepper – Fresh or canned black pepper works well.
- Garlic Powder
- Smoked Paprika – You could use regular paprika if you like but you won’t get that smoky flavor.
You do not need any fancy supplies, but you will want to pull out or consider getting the following:
- Fork or Spoon
- Measuring Spoons
- Small Mixing Bowl
- Empty Spice Jar
How to Make Our Hamburger Seasoning Recipe
1. Measure and dump.
Measure each spice and salt using measuring spoons.
This is not an exact science, so you can use heaping spoonfuls or cut one spice a bit short.
Dump each spice into a small bowl.
2. Mix and then use or store.
Use a fork or spoon to blend the spices and salt together until well-combined.
Once it is ready, you can spoon out about 2 teaspoons per pound of ground beef or carefully pour the mix into an empty, clean spice jar to store for later.
Serving
Unless you are trying to win some weird bet, do not eat this as is.
Mix it into your favorite burger recipe or just with some ground beef or chicken.
You can also use it to season some of our recipes, like:
Storing
If you have them, use an empty, clean spice jar to store the burger seasoning.
Like other spices, it can last for months on the shelf.
To use, measure or sprinkle it out like you would any other spice, using about 2 to 4 teaspoons per pound of meat.
Tips and Tricks
- If you are looking to completely cut out sodium or salt, don’t add it! You can use any salt you have on hand, but we find sea salt or coarse Kosher salt tends to work best.
- You can add cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper, other peppers, or just more black pepper for a spicier, hotter burger seasoning recipe.
- If you don’t have a funnel, try this trick. Take a piece of paper and fold it in half, making a nice crease. Place the bottom of the crease around the middle of the spice jar opening and pour the spices from the bowl into the piece of paper. This helps to prevent spilling the seasonings everywhere when you add them to your jar.
- Save a bowl and just add the spices right to your spice jar. Once added, give it a good shake, like you are shaking it for some paper.
- This spice blend also works really well on Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries or Baked Sweet Potato Fries
