Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies
Here’s what you need for peach simple syrup:
- Water – Just plain old tap water, unless you want to use spring or filtered water.
- White Sugar – You will need some white granulated sugar.
- Peaches – In the summer, you can use fresh peaches, but you can also make this with frozen peaches.
You will want some of these common kitchen items handy:
How to Make Peach Simple Syrup
1. Prepare the peaches.
Wash and peel your peach.
Cut the peach into smaller pieces or wedges, removing the core.
Set aside in a small bowl.
2. Simmer the water and sugar.
In a small pot, whisk together the sugar and water over medium-low heat.
Allow it to come to a slow simmer, mixing frequently, until the sugar completely dissolves.
3. Add in the peaches.
Once the sugar has fully dissolved, carefully add in the peaches.
Allow the peaches and sugar water to simmer for about 10 minutes.
The peaches will start to break apart as it cooks.
Remove from the heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.
Finally, strain the peach simple syrup into a mason jar or other container, using a potato masher or spoon to push out more of the syrup.
Allow it to cool completely before adding to your drinks or baking recipes.
Serving
While you could drink the peach simple syrup directly from the jar, it generally works best added to drinks.
You could add it to our peach wine spritzers or peach wine slushies.
It also can transform your favorite tea into peach tea or a peach tea cocktail.
You can also mix a small amount into oatmeal or to add extra flavor to blueberry muffins or other baked goods.
Storing
Pour cooled simple syrup into a sealable mason jar or other air tight container.
It should stay fresh for about 2 weeks in the fridge.
You could also freeze it.
To use it again once frozen, allow it to thaw naturally over night in the fridge.
Tips and Tricks
- Don’t let the simple syrup come to a boil. A low simmer is all you need. Too hot and it could caramalize the sugar, which you don’t want.
- Do not add the peaches until after the sugar fully dissolves.
- You can leave the skins on the peaches if you like, just make sure to fully wash them clean if you plan to.
