General S’mores Tips and Tricks
- If you don’t use Hershey’s chocolate bars, try using milk chocolate where possible. This tends to melt the easiest and at a lower temperature compared to other types, like semi-sweet or dark.
- While Hershey’s chocolate bars are the classic gold standard of any s’mores dessert recipe, if you want to go for a high end (as high end as eating a gooey marshmallow can be- ha!) use really good chocolate.
- Don’t feel tied to traditional s’mores dessert recipe ingredients. You can absolutely use elements. For example, switch the graham crackers out for Oreos or Nilla wafers or even chocolate chip cookies. Or switch plain chocolate for a a caramel chocolate square or a peanut butter cup.
- And for marshmallows? Sure the regular marshmallows are fine and the s’mores square marshmallows are even better for a traditional s’more but if you are making a s’more near a holiday use PEEPs. It’s the easiest way to turn them into a festive treat.
- Don’t sweat the name brand on anything (except Oreos, highly recommend). Graham crackers pretty much taste the same across brands as do marshmallows. Hershey’s has a unique flavor for milk chocolate, but you can also use any chocolate bar or chip you like instead for most of the recipes on this list.
- With some exceptions, it is best to eat s’mores dessert recipes fresh from the oven, air fryer, or otherwise. The marshmallows tend to get hard and less-than-appetizing if you store them for later use.
- Many of these recipes will be a little messy to eat. It is toasted gooey marshmallow and melted chocolate after all! If you are looking for a less messy s’mores dessert recipe, I recommend going for something like a granola bar, cereal treat, or even brownie.
