Shopping for Summer Cocktail Drinks
Before getting into a list of delcious summer cocktail drinks, you might want to consider some of the gadgets and supplies that make making summer drinks easy.
You won’t need all of these for every drink on the list, but they do help out quite a bit with at least a few:
Tips for Making Summer Cocktail Drinks
Though each recipe will have its own set of recommendations, these are some generally good tips that apply to a lot of the recipes.
- Use fresh ingredients for best flavors. A lot of these drinks are fruity and use summer time berries and fruits. If you have easy access to a farm or farm stand, we highly recommend getting them there. But any in-season fruit or berry should taste fine from a grocery store.
- The exception to the fresh ingredients? Any of the frozen drinks! Go ahead and buy a bag of frozen fruit to use for the frozen peach wine slushies, boozy frozen strawberry lemonade slushies, or frozen pineapple mimosas.
- You can use your preferred brand of wine, vodka, or other spirit in any of these drinks. Unless otherwise stated, you may want to avoid flavored versions, like caramel flavored vodka. It may not go well with the lighter tastes of summer. For all drinks, you can get what’s most affordable to you, though some “top shelf” options have a smoother flavor or less after taste.
- That said, in the wine recipes, go right ahead and buy the most 8ish dollar bottle of wine. Keep it bougie on a budget.
- Glasses do not make a big difference in these summer drinks. You can use whatever you have on hand or just get some red solo cups if you are having an informal get together. Martini, wine, and other spirit glasses just add a bit of an asthetic touch when serving these drinks, but it is not essential.
- Resting time is often good. We use a lot of fruits and berries to bring some additional flavor to the drinks. For best results, you often want the drinks to sit for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors come together. This of course does not hold true for the frozen drinks, which you want to serve and enjoy right away.
- We have several simple syrup recipes on our site, some of which are needed for the summer cocktails. Each recipe should list what simple syrup they use with at least a brief explaination on how to make them. Don’t worry: simple syrups are as simple to make as the name implies.
