I am a total coffee junkie. I love it. It is my life force. Granted this is not surprising at all considering I am a work at home mom with small children at home. So clearly sleep is limited.
Coffee, on the other hand, can never be anything other than abundant in this house.
I mostly prefer my coffee hot, but when the weather heats up, I love frappucinos. I’m not much of an iced coffee kind of person, mainly because I find ice waters the coffee down. I’m ok with frappucinos though.
Most frappucinos are coffee blended with ice, flavoring, and cream. My vanilla frappucinos are the same but there is one major difference between my version of a frappucino and the ones you will find in most stores.
This vanilla frappucino uses coffee ice cubes instead of plain ice. That way the coffee doesn’t get that really watered down consistency that happens especially if you take your time drinking it and it melts.
Other than coffee ice cubes, there’s no trick to this. I just throw coffee, coffee ice cubes, half and half, sweetener and vanilla extract into the blender. Then I blend it together and serve.
A note on blenders. I highly recommend investing in a decent blender if you’re going to make a lot of frappucinos. I like this Ninja blender. It’s more pricey than the bottom of the barrel blenders but not nearly as expensive as a Vitamix. It blends fabulously each time for smooth frappucinos, smoothies and frozen cocktails.
Customize your frappucinos
Of course, you can customize this to suit your tastes. You can make the following substitutions:
- Feel free to sub coconut milk or almond milk for the half and half if you’d like to keep it dairy free.
- If you’re watching your sugar intake or counting carbs, you can use any sweetener you like including sugar free sweeteners.
- Have vanilla simple syrup on hand? You could substitute that for the vanilla extract and sugar. You might have to play with it to get it to suit your tastes.
- Stir in blueberry simple syrup or raspberry simple syrup for a vanilla berry frozen coffee drink.
- You can add more or less sweetener to suit your tastes.
Just like that, an easy vanilla frappucino you can enjoy at home without spending money at the coffee shop.
