How to Make Homemade Limoncello

Ingredients for Homemade Limoncello

Alcohol- Vodka or sometimes rum Lemons- Peeled so you have only the yellow part and none of the white Simple Syrup

Remove the lemon zest.

Instead of using a microplane or zester, use a vegetable peeler to remove only the yellow zest.

Set the zest aside.

You'll be left with almost paper thin slices of yellow zest.

Soak the zest.

Put the lemon zest into a sealable jar or jars and pour the alcohol over top. Seal the jar.

Let the zest sit.

Keeping the jars out of direct sunlight, let the lemon zest sit for at least 4 days. Shake them gently occasionally.

Strain the liqueur.

After the zest has infused the alcohol, strain the liqueur using a mesh strainer over a bowl or measuring cup to remove all the zest. Discard the zest.

Make simple syrup.

Whisk sugar and water together in a pot over medium low heat, cooking until the sugar dissolves. Add this to the limoncello, taste, and add more if needed.

Store or serve.

Store the limoncello in sealed glass jars and refrigerate...or...
