What I’m Wednesday 38

Welcome to the place where I share what I’m up to each week and a bit of my real life outside of the blog.

Doing

We’ve spent some time doing crafts with the kids. We have finger painted on the kitchen floor, which was actually ridiculously fun. And I’ve been doing a colored pencil drawing when I color with my daughter. Drawing a bunch of tulips. It’s fun and helps me feel like my brain isn’t shrinking from disuse right now.

We’ve also spent a far amount of time outside taking walks. It does feel pretty lucky to live in an area where we can get outside while maintaining social distancing. And the kids and dogs certainly enjoy it. Plus it’s just absolutely beautiful with the early spring light and weather. Golden hour seems so much sweeter right now.

Working up the courage to do

This is going to sound so unbelievably shallow and silly… but I’m getting ready to attempt to remove my gel manicure.

The last time I did this it was seriously the biggest beauty disaster. My nails hold on to my polish freakishly well. So I soaked them in nail polish remover and the gel polish still wouldn’t come off. Let’s just say I over soaked my nails and all the skin on my fingertips peeled off in chunks for two weeks. It was disgusting and it hurt a ton.

This time, I ordered this kit. I still haven’t used it because I’m scared that I’m going to peel my skin off again. Does anyone have any good suggestions for removing a gel manicure? Please let me know!

Reading

I finished American Royals. Holy heck! What a cliff hanger! I can’t wait for the second book to come out in fall. I need to know:

  • What happens with Beatrice and Teddy?
  • How about Beatrice and Connor?
  • Nina and Jeff?
  • Daphne? By the way, Daphne is legitimately the worst. LOATHE HER.

Have any of you read this book? I’m obsessed! It was so fun and the perfect escapist read for this weird time.

Also, I really want this to be turned into a movie or a tv show or something.

I’ve just about finished Age of Light, a historical fiction biography about real life World War 2 wartime photographer Lee Miller and her relationship with Man Ray, a very famous surrealist. Lee Miller was the only female war photographer during WW2 so it’s definitely interesting. It’s very different from most of the books I’ve read lately, a lot grittier. And I know how it ends since I know a bit about Lee Miller and I know from a romance perspective I’m gonna be frustrated by it. And I can tell if from a historical perspective, I’m fascinated or annoyed that it has reduced her place in history down to this relationship. I can’t entirely tell yet.

Suggestions for what to read next?

Watching

Holy hell. We are currently watching the Tiger King on Netflix.

I have so many questions.

  • WHAT AM I ACTUALLY WATCHING?
  • Is there anyone who thinks Carole didn’t kill her husband?
  • Is Doc Antle a cult leader? For real though.
  • What the absolute hell is going on?
  • Did the people who produced Tiger King have anything to do with COVID-19? As in was it their master plan to quarantine the whole world so we’d all be held captive to this train wreck?
  • How do people not think Carole Baskin is the craziest of them all?

I’m only on the third episode so I’m sure I’ll have more questions. But when I watch it, I’m pretty sure my mouth just hangs open in disbelief of this whole thing.

Eating

We made a big batch of homemade soft pretzels last week that were delicious (recipe coming soon). I’ve also been getting a lot of mileage out of this Instant Pot barbecue chicken and using it for sandwiches and stuffed potatoes.

Feeling

I’m trying to stay optimistic right now, but I’ll be totally honest and admit that I spend my days cycling between, “This is ok. We can do this.” and “HOLY HELL IN A HANDBASKET WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON IN THE WORLD?” Sometimes I throw in a little, “Ohhhhh look! A person! There’s a person walking down the street outside my window that’s not related to me. I totally get why my dog barks at people now.”

That’s it for me this week! What are you up to? How are you all holding up? Leave me a comment and let me know! SERIOUSLY NEED HUMAN INTERACTION RIGHT NOW. And I’m the world’s biggest introvert and it’s starting to get to me. Extroverts out there, sending you love.
