I know I have told you all time and time again that I am that girl.
The legging wearing, fall loving, fancy coffee drinkin, PSL loving girl. You know the one.
Well, can I tell you my dirty little secret?
I actually wasn’t a coffee drinker until I had children with the exception of finals week and tech week in college. But when I became a mom, it was coffee game on.
Before then, I was a tea drinker. In fact, I still love me a good cup of tea.
Most nights when the weather finally cools off, you can find me snuggled up on the couch, under a blanket with a cup of hot tea and a fall scented candle lit.
And in a perfect world, a soft autumn rain is falling outside my living room window as I sip a pumpkin spice chai latte and take it all in.
What is a chai latte?
A chai latte is a tea drink that is a cozy alternative to coffee.
In this case, it’s a cozy alternative to Pumpkin Spice Lattes or Cinderella Lattes.
Chai tea itself is a blend of tea with warming spices like cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and peppercorns.
It leaves a pleasant warmth in the back of your throat.
Chai lattes top brewed chai tea with frothed or foamed milk.
This particular pumpkin spice chai latte is a fall take on this drink/
Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies
For the perfect pumpkin spice chai latte, you need:
- Chai tea bags – You can use your prefered brand. We like TAZO chai tea bags, but you can get whatever brand you like. In fall, you can also find TAZO pumpkin spice chai tea bags.
- Boiling water – You cannot make chai tea lattes without boiling water.
- Half and Half – We tend to use half and half for the creamer, but you could use light cream or whole milk.
- Honey – Honey gives the pumpkin spice chai latte a sweet flavor. You can add more if you like it a bit sweeter.
- Pumpkin Puree – For a genuine pumpkin flavor, we mix the half and half with a small amount of pumpkin puree.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice – If you can’t find pumpkin pie spice, you can use equal amounts of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground cloves. You can also add some ground ginger or all spice too.
- Cinnamon – To help give the chai tea some extra spice, you’ll want to add a bit more cinnamon.

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte
1. Boil the water and steep the tea.
Fill your tea kettle with water and bring to a boil.
Once ready, place a chai tea bag in each mug you want to fill.
Pour the boiling water about half of the way up.
Set the mugs aside and allow it to steep.
2. Make the pumpkin spice cream.
As the tea steeps, add the half and half, honey, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon in a small sauce pot.
Stir to combine.
Heat over medium low heat until warmed through.
Add desired amount to each mug but stop when the mug is still about 1/3 to 1/4 empty.
3. Froth the milk.
Pour half and half, milk, or light cream into a separate cup.
Use a frother for a few seconds on the cream until it becomes light and foamy.
Pour the foamy cream on top of each mug, serve, and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- If you do not have a milk frother, you can use a product like International Delight One Touch Latte. It adds a frothy layer on top of the pumpkin spice chai latte. It comes in different flavors, so you can likely find one that you like.
- If you want more sweetness in your pumpkin spice chai lattes, you can add a bit more honey to the tea.
- Some people find that warming milk or cream before frothing helps. In general, we never have a problem with frothing cool milk, but if you have trouble, try warming it first.

Wow, this latte sounds incredible! It’s a gloomy, October day here, too, and I’m wishing I had one of these sitting on my desk right now. Also, I love the “small pumpkin lovin protegee” nickname. That totally describes my toddler, too! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. It’s going on the list to make soon! #client
