3 Ingredient Halloween S’mores

Halloween s’mores put a spooky spin on the classic campfire s’mores, and you can make them inside in less than 5 minutes. So fun to make with the kids for a Halloween party or on Trick or Treat night!

S’mores are a big hit in this house.

My kids love having fires and roasting marshmallows.

And when it’s not fire weather, they love having the ooey gooey treat inside with over roasted marshmallows.

Or in this case- Halloween Peeps!

My kids love the festive twist on the chocolate marshmallow graham cracker combination.

Since Trick or Treat night doesn’t fall on Halloween here, I like to come up with other ways to keep the spooky fun coming for my kids.

We let them dress in their costumes again, do a Halloween movie marathon and make fun Halloween treats like mummy mozzarella sticks and these Halloween s’mores.

And then they love it!

Of course, who am I kidding?

This isn’t just a Halloween activity but something we do and find totally acceptable from July 5th or so on.

To make Halloween s’mores, you only need:

  • Hershey’s Chocolate Bars – You can use other brands of chocolate bar if you like or even use Hershey’s with almonds if you really want to. But for a basic Hershey s’more, their plan chocolate bar works great and melts nicely.
  • Halloween Peeps – That’s right! Just Born decided making Peeps just for Easter is too limiting, so now they have them for Halloween and Christmas for all your sugar coated marshmallow craving needs. You can use whatever fun shapes you can find. We used ghosts and monster ones for our s’mores.
  • Graham Crackers – Just like campfire s’mores, you will want graham crackers to form the s’more sandwiches. You can use your favorite brand and any of your favorite varieties, like chocolate. And if you are feeling really wild, try them with Oreos, chocolate chip cookies, or other flat treats.

Kitchen equipment you’ll need is minimal but you’ll need:

How to Make Halloween S’mores

1. Set up your s’mores.

Lay the graham crackers out on a sheet pan lined with foil.

Before doing anything, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Once it has heated, line a cookie sheet with foil or parchment paper.

Break the graham crackers in half and place a single square for each s’more on the lined cookie sheet.

Break the Hershey’s chocolate bar into smaller pieces.

Arrange the chocolate bars in the center of each graham cracker

We find that about 3 rectangles just about covers the graham cracker square nicely.

Finally, place a single Peep on top of each chocolate bar.

Place the prepared s’more into the preheated oven.

Bake for about 5 minutes.

You will know they are done when they feel soft pushing down on the middle of the peeps and the chocolate will look glassy but still hold its form.

3. Remove from the oven and serve.

Once the s’mores are ready, remove them from the oven.

Top each Peep with a square of graham cracker.

Serve warm from the oven and enjoy!

Serving Suggestions

Halloween s’mores get kind of messy when you eat them.

According to my kids, this is part of the fun!

But if you are more like me and not a fan of sticky hands, you’ll definitely want to have napkins or baby wipes handy!

Storing

A Halloween S’mores Board

As far as storing leftovers goes, I don’t recommend storing leftover s’mores.

They don’t hold up well.

You could store all the individual ingredients in their package or if you have made a Halloween s’mores board just cover it tightly with plastic wrap or foil and leave it on your counter until either you are ready to make more or your adorable gremlins-ahem- children eat the leftovers.

Halloween S’mores Variations

Want to jazz up your s’more experience? Try these alterations:

  • Use different types of chocolate. Milk chocolate like Hersheys tend to melt best, but you can use dark, semi-sweet, or even white chocolate if you like. In a pinch, you could also use chips instead of bars. Or make use of that leftover Halloween candy! Use your favorite fun size chocolate bar in place of the Hershey’s!
  • Use cookies instead of graham crackers. Oreos are a great option for s’mores, but you could use chocolate chip cookies, Milanos, short bread cookies or just about any cookie you like.
  • Try candy melts. Nothing says spooky like biting into something and seeing gooey, red stuff coming out. To get this effect, you can use red candy melts either with or instead of chocolate.
  • Can’t find Peeps? Use use Halloween sprinkles instead. If you can’t find Halloween Peeps, you can use Halloween or fall sprinkles found in many stores’ seasonal sections. You then use regular marshmallows and top them with a pinch of sprinkles.

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t microwave these Halloween s’mores! The Peeps tend to grow in size when you microwave them and get kind of rubbery. They only expand a little bit in the oven.
  • Do not top the s’mores before baking them. We find that it dries out the top graham cracker if you top it and then bake it.
  • Avoid over-baking the s’mores. If they cook too long, the chocolate will burn and it seizes and gets gross.
  • The ghost faces will melt off in the oven. If you must have faces, get a food writer pen and draw a quick face on the ghosts after they come out of the oven.
