What do you think would happen if Buddy the Elf drank coffee that wasn’t awful?

I mean sure he liked the coffee with “syrup” but that’s a whole other post.

My bet is his order of choice would be a peppermint mocha latte.

And if he were making coffee at home for Jovi and Papa Elf, you can bet he’d be pouring in the homemade peppermint mocha coffee creamer.

Why wouldn’t he?

After all candy canes are delicious (see also Easy Candy Cane Brownies (Peppermint Brownies), Easy Candy Cane Hearts, White Chocolate Candy Cane Martini (Chocolate Peppermint Martinis), and Homemade Candy Cane Vodka).

And it effortlessly combines three of the elf’s favorite food groups (candy! candy canes! syrups!) into one merry morning pick me up.

And unlike some other peppermint mocha creamer recipes, our recipe is 3 ingredients and doesn’t require any cooking!

Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies

Ingredients for Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer: Half and Half, Chocolate Syrup, and Peppermint Extract

Here’s what you need to make peppermint mocha coffee creamer:

  • Half and Half – You could use light cream, heavy cream, milk, or non-dairy milks, but we find that half and half gives it the best consistency.
  • Peppermint extract – You can find this in many baking aisles or buy it online.
  • Hershey’s Syrup – You could use a different brand of chocolate syrup if you prefer.
  • Coffee – To serve your peppermint mocha coffee creamer, make sure to brew some fresh coffee. You don’t need coffee to make the actual peppermint creamer, but it does give you something to put it into, so you might want to have some ready. And if you wanted to use it in something other than coffee you could always use it in a baked French toast casserole to give it a holiday feel!

You will also want to have the following kitchen supplies (all of which you probably already have):

How to Make Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer

Stir all of the ingredients for peppermint mocha coffee creamer together in a jar.
Stir all of the ingredients for peppermint mocha coffee creamer together in a jar.

1. Add ingredients to a jar or small bowl.

Pour your half and half, peppermint extract, and chocolate syrup into your mason jar or small bowl.

If you are using a mason jar with a lid or other wide-mouth jar to store the peppermint creamer, you can mix it right in the jar.

2. Mix it all together.

Use a spoon and mix the ingreidents together until well combined.

The cream should turn a light brown color.

Give the creamer a taste.

If it is not pepperminty enough for you, you can add a very small amount – 1/4 teaspoon – and mix it up again.

Taste again and keep adding if you like, in small portions, until it reaches its peak level of peppermint for your liking.

If you want it more chocolately, you can add a similar small amount of Hershey syrup, mixing, and tasting until it has enough of a chocolate flavor for you.

3. Use or seal and store.

Once the peppermint mocha creamer has the flavor you like, you can use it to make a peppermint mocha latte or just add the creamer to your regular cup of coffee.

If you want to save it for later, just seal the jar or pour it into a sealable container and store in your fridge for later use.

Serving and Storing

To serve peppermint mocha coffee creamer, you can simply add 1 or 2 tablespoons to your favorite coffee.

If you are like me and like super sweet coffee, you may want to also add your favorite sweetener because this creamer only adds a small amount of sweetness.

To store, either place a lid on the mason jar or pour into a sealable container.

It should stay fresh in the fridge for about a week so you can make a peppermint coffee every morning for a festive treat.

Making a Peppermint Mocha Latte

If you want to use this peppermint mocha coffee creamer in a latte, start by heating up about 2 to 3 tablespoon of the creamer in the microwave.

You want the creamer to get warm but not be scalding.

If you have a frother, you can use that to froth your homemade peppermint mocha creamer.

If you don’t have a frother, you can pour the creamer into a sealable jar, seal the lid, and shake it vigorously for about a minute.

Check the creamer for frothiness. If it is still not frothy, shake for a longer period of time.

Prepare a serving of expresso.

Pour the frothed peppermint creamer over the top of the expresso, making a fancy design if you are so inclined or skilled.

Tips and Tricks

  • Add extra peppermint extract at very small amounts (1/4 teaspoon or less) and mix and taste before adding more. It is very strong and can get over-powering if you add too much.
  • You can add more chocolate syrup in a similar fashion, only adding about a teaspoon or so at a time. This is not as over-powering as the peppermint extract, but it can still become too chocolately or sweet if you add too much.
  • Use your preferred type of cream or milk that you normally use in your coffee. Lower fat milks will be less creamy. I recommend using at least whole milk for a richer, creamier creamer.
  • This homemade peppermint mocha coffee creamer adds only a small amount of sweetness. It may be enough for you, but if you do like a very sweet cup of coffee, then you may want to add your preferred sweetener.
