Summer is slippin away like a bottle of wine cause it was never mine.
That’s how I feel every year around this time and of course Taylor Swift perfectly sums it up.
The days are still sunny and sweet but change is waiting in the corner bringing crisp air, colorful leaves, and cozy flavors.
As much as I love fall, I want to embrace what’s left of sunny summer days and peach season with…
well, a bottle of wine.
Or a pitcher of peach sangria.
It’s perfectly sweet and light, full of those end of summer peach flavors and perfect for sipping outside on your patio or in your yard, letting summer linger just a little longer.
Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies
Here’s what you need for an easy peach sangria recipe:
- White Wine – Seriously, we the most 8-ish dollar bottle of wine, but you can use whatever brand floats your boat.
- White Rum – We use Bacardi because we go shorti, it’s our birthday, and sip Bacardi like its our birthday. You could sub in peach schnapps if you prefer.
- Peach Simple Syrup – You can use our recipe for peach simple syrup, in which case you’ll need a cup of water, 1 peach, and 1 cup of sugar. You could also sub in peach schnapps, though this will make it a very strong and less sweet drink. You could also use other sugary drink mix ins if you like.
- Peaches – You can just wash and slice them into wedges. You could use frozen peaches if you like.
- Sprite – This gives the peach sangria a bit of sparkle, sweetness, and fresh flavor.
- Peach Schnapps – This is 100% optional. We do not typically add it ourselves, but it add some extra strength to the drink and some additional flavor. It can also sub in for either white rum or peach simple syrup.
You do not need any equipment for making peach sangria, though you will want to have handy:
How to Make Peach Sangria
1. Make peach simple syrup.
If you would rather use peach schnapps or another sweet drink mixer, you can.
We use our peach simple syrup, which is a combination of 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 peach.
To make, you dissovle the sugar in simmering water, mixing frequently.
Once the sugar dissolves, add in diced peaches.
Simmer the peaches for about 10 minutes and then remove from heat.
Carefully strain the peaches out and pour the peach simple syrup into a mason jar or measuring cup.
For more details, you can follow our recipe for making peach simple syrup.
Allow the syrup to cool to at least room temperature before making the sangria.
2. Prep your peaches.
Wash your peaches and cut them into slices.
It does not matter too much how big the slices are.
You should remove any bruised areas or other imperfections.
If you want to use frozen peaches, thaw the peaches before using in the sangria.
3. Make the sangria.
Place the peach slices into the bottom of a pitcher or other container.
Add in about a cup of simple syrup and a cup of white rum to the pitcher.
Pour in one roughly 12 ounce bottle of wine.
You can give it a quick stir and then let it rest for at least 30 minutes before serving.
The longer it rests, the more the flavors will come together.
When serving, pour the sangria into the glasses to about 2/3s to 3/4s full.
Top with a splash of Sprite to add a bit of sparkle.
Serving
Peach sangria pairs perfectly with your favorite summer brunch meals, like Caesar salad.
Serve it chilled.
It is also offers a refreshing after work drink or way to end a hot summer day.
You can garnish your glasses with a peach slice or rim the glasses with sugar if you like.
Storing
You can store peach sangria in the fridge for about 1 week in an air tight container.
Keep the Sprite or similar soda seperate until you are ready to serve the sangria.
The drink will not fully freeze, so keep this sangria in the fridge.
Tips and Tricks
- You can add more or less alcohol based on your preferences. Want it stronger? Add in peach schnapps or add more white rum. Want less alcohol? Add less white rum or skip it altogether.
- Time is your friend with peach sangria. The longer it sits, the better the flavors all come together. It stores well in the fridge and will taste best when fully chilled.
- Add in Sprite or similar lemon-lime soda for some added flavor, sparkle, and sweetness. You could also use sparkling water or sparkling wine or champaigne if you like.
