Christmas is all about the sparkle right?
If you can’t be blingy this time of year when can you?
These Christmas cranberry champagne cocktails are sparkly to the max and the perfect cocktail to sip on while you wrap presents or entertain some guests.
Ready in minutes, these champagne cocktails can serve a few friends and family or get stored for some easy festive drinks for several days.
Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies
Here’s what you need to make Christmas cranberry champagne cocktails:
- Champagne – You can use your favorite brand, or if you prefer, you can sub in sparkly wine. And if you really have a favorite, flat wine, you could use that, but the end cocktail will not be as fizzy.
- Cranberry Vodka – You can substitute in either plain or vanilla vodka if you can’t find cranberry vodka.
- Cranberry Simple Syrup – You can easily make this following our cranberry simple syrup recipe. If you don’t want to fuss with a simple syrup (We promise they are super easy to make!) you can use cranberry cocktail instead.
- Cranberries – You use cranberries to add a bit of garnish to the drinks. You can either add them to your pitcher or to the flutes/glasses themselves.
- Sugared Rosemary – To make this, dip your rosemary in a bit of water, shake off excess, and then roll in white sugar.
- Sprite or Club Soda – This adds some sparkle to each flute or glass. Sprite also adds a bit of fresh flavor to it.
You don’t need any fancy equipment, but you might want to have:
- Glass Pitcher
- Champagne Flutes
- Small Sauce Pot (to make a simple syrup)
How to Make Christmas Cranberry Champagne Cocktails
1. Make the simple syrup.
To make an easy cranberry simple syrup, heat 1 cup of water, 1 cup of cranberries, and 1 cup of sweetener or sugar over medium-low heat.
Allow the pot to a come to a light simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Keep it at a low simmer until the cranberries start to burst open.
Remove from heat, strain the cranberries from the syrup, and allow to chill in the fridge for about an hour.
You can use it sooner if you like, but you should at least let it come down to about room temperature before using in the cocktail.
2. Fill the pitcher.
Once your cranberry simple syrup is ready, pour it along with your champagne and vodka into your pitcher.
Add in any left over cranberries not used in the simple syrup.
You can skip this, it is more for garnish than flavor.
Finally, stir to combine.
3. Prepare the flutes and pour the cocktails.
To give the flutes extra sparkle, dip the tops into water and then into a small bowl of sugar.
This creates a frosty top for the flutes.
Next, pour the champagne mix into each flute, leaving about 1/4 to 1/3 room at the top.
Finally, add a splash of Sprite to fully fill each flute.
As a final garnish, dampen your rosemary sprigs, roll them in your sugar bowl, and then add one to each glass.
Serving and Storing
Serve Christmas cranberry champagne cocktails at a holiday party, for a special home date night, or just because you want a festive pick me up.
These pair well with a roast turkey dinner or stuffed flank steak.
You might also enjoy them with a Christmas shrimp scampi.
You could also enjoy these as a treat for Christmas breakfast, like ham and cheese frittata or Christmas tree cinnamon buns.
Due to the carbonation in champagne, its best to make these when you are ready to serve the cocktails.
You can make the cranberry simple syrup ahead if you like and store it in the fridge in a sealed container.
If you want to put the pitcher together ahead, then we recommend using a flat wine instead of champagne.
The fizziness will then come from the Sprite or soda water.
Tips and Tricks
- If you do not want to make a simple syrup, use cranberry cocktail, not cranberry juice, as a substitute. Cranberry cocktail is a bit sweeter than plain cranberry juice.
- Due to the carbonation, it is best to make this Christmas cranberry champagne cocktail right before serving. If you want to make any part ahead, you can store the cranberry simple syrup for several days in the fridge. You could also sub in flat wine, but it will not be quite as fizzy.
- If you want to make these less strong, skip the vodka altogether. Regular and vanilla vodka both work well as substitutes for cranberry vodka.
