In my older age I have gotten totally weird about sweet things. Throughout my 20s I had such a sweet tooth. I finished each day with a brownie or a cookie. The more chocolate the better. But somewhere in the last few years, my tastes have changed significantly. Now the thought of having some sweets makes my teeth hurt.
I’m weird. I know.
And that’s how I feel about a lot of hot chocolate. While most hot cocoa is really yummy it’s just so sweet that I find I can only have a few sips before I am over it. And drinking overly sweet drinks makes me weirdly extra thirsty.
This white hot chocolate doesn’t do any of those things! It’s sweet but not in that oh my teeth hurt just thinking about it kind of way. And it is the creamiest, most luxurious hot cocoa I have ever had. Love more than any other milk or semisweet hot cocoa variety.
Ingredients for the Creamiest White Hot Chocolate Ever
You don’t need a lot to make the best white hot cocoa you have ever had. To make it you need:
- Heavy cream: The heavy cream provides the rich, thick base. Using heavy cream gives the hot cocoa a better mouthfeel and more silkiness than using all milk.
- Milk: Milk thins out the recipe a bit and cuts the richness. I suggest using whole milk for best results.
- White chocolate: Use good quality white chocolate. I like Ghiradelli white chocolate chips in this.
- Vanilla:ย Vanilla adds a bit of depth to the flavor.
- Salt: You only need a pinch of sea salt to cut the sweetness and bring out the flavors.
How to Make White Hot Chocolate
Making this is so easy and there are two ways you could make it. You could do it on the stove top if you want your hot cocoa in just a few minutes or you could make it in the crock pot. Either way, it’s not hard at all. My 5 year old basically makes this with little to no help. Other than making sure she doesn’t either set fire to the kitchen or burn herself.
Stove Top Hot Cocoa
To make this white hot cocoa recipe on the stove, just add all the ingredients into a medium sauce pan and stir them together. Then heat the pan over medium heat, stirring regularly. As soon as the chocolate is melted, remove it from the heat and serve. Make sure not to cook it too long or the white chocolate will overcook and clump. It’s not pretty. And we are all about pretty hot cocoa here.
Crock Pot Hot Cocoa
To make this white hot chocolate in the crock pot or slow cooker, just put all the ingredients in a slow cooker and stir. Then cook on low for about an hour, stirring occasionally. For ease, I like to use my smaller crock pot for this. But if you want to double or triple the recipe feel free to use a large crock pot. Side note: I came across these purple polka dot crock pots and I am in love.
Other Warm Drinks I Love
This white hot chocolate is my favorite hands down hot cocoa recipe ever. It’s smooth and lightly sweet and so decadent without being over the top sweet and it is delicious as is or with a shot ofย Easy Vanilla Simple Syrup or Raspberry Simple Syrup for Drinks. Give it a try and let me know what you think by leaving me a comment or finding me on Facebook or uploading a picture to Instagram and tagging me @SeasonedSprinkles.
If white hot cocoa doesn’t float your boat, try these other cozy beverages. I’m basically the queen of cozy beverages (and fluffy blankets) so I’m sure there’s something here you’ll love.
