Fried Mozzarella Grilled Cheese
Fried Mozzarella Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Fried mozzarella grilled cheese sandwiches. Really, these are things of absolute beauty.
If it’s possible to have romantic feelings for food, I definitely have a crush on these babies. Shirtless Ryan Gosling saying, “Hey Girl, let’s cuddle and light the pumpkin spice candle,” has absolutely nothing on these glorious sammies. Nothing.
I mean these sandwiches are basically the baby of an intense love affair between mozzarella sticks and grilled cheese. Could anything less than beautiful perfection come from that union? I think not.
Fried mozzarella by itself is a thing of beauty. It makes anything better. I mean there’s plain Caprese salad and then there’s fried mozzarella Caprese salad, which is infinitely better due to the goo factor of the fried cheese.
Of course, plain grilled cheese already has the goo factor, but it doesn’t have the crunch of a mozzarella stick. Well, these grilled cheese sandwiches do. Because they are breaded. Breaded bread. Genius right?
I know. Some of you that read everything I write, are like, “But Jenna, what about that health kick you’ve been on that you shouted about in your weekly word dump? Breaded bread. Really?”
Well, balance my friends, balance. I can’t do the running health nut thing without flying my foodie flag. And while I love some Caprese zoodle bowls with chickpeas, I need to indulge sometimes. With things like fried mozzarella grilled cheese sandwiches. Because life is short. And these sandwiches are just too darn good not to enjoy.
Plus, they are so easy. The whole process of making them takes maybe 30 seconds longer than making a regular grilled cheese. You just have to dip them in egg and coat them in breadcrumbs before frying them up. Then boom. Done and done and you have food heaven.
If you really want to take them next level, serve them with your favorite tomato sauce or some pesto sauce to dip them in. And enjoy. You deserve it.
Ingredients
- 4 eggs beaten
- 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup of bread crumbs*
- 1/2 cup of flour*
- salt and pepper
- 1 tsp of garlic powder
- 16 ounces of fresh mozzarella cheese
- 8 slices of bread*
- 3 cups of olive oil**
Instructions
- Beat the eggs in a bowl wide enough to dip sandwiches into. In a separate bowl, whisk together Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, flour, and seasoning.
- Assemble the sandwich by putting about 4 ounces of mozzarella cheese in between 2 slices of bread. Dip entire sandwich in eggs, then dip in the breading mixture. Repeat with other 3 sandwiches.
- In a deep pan, heat the oil up over medium high heat. Fry each sandwich for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown. Serve hot and enjoy.
Notes
** You may need more olive oil, pending pan size. Use enough to completely submerge the sandwiches.
OMG this looks amazing! I want it now! If I ever had to give up cheese, I don’t know what I’d do! ๐
I know! I’d be so sad!
This looks AHHMAZING! I love mozzarella and never even thought about doing it like this. Absolutely love it. By the way, I hopped over to the zoodle recipe and that I pinned immediately.
