Our kiddos love strawberries and going strawberry picking.
So we almost always have fresh strawberries in the fridge during the late spring and early summer.
Perfect to make Strawberry Simple Syrup.
And of course my little gremlins that love eating lemon slices adore homemade lemonade.
So every now and then I like to treat them to this sweet homemade strawberry lemonade recipe.
Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies
For homemade strawberry lemonade, you will need:
- Strawberries – You can use frozen or fresh. We prefer freshly picked during the summer since we are local to a farm, but a farm stand or grocery store also work. Grocery store strawberries tend to create a lighter looking pink.
- Sugar – You need this to make the simple syrup. You could also use agave nectar, honey, maple syrup, or other non-sugar sweetner that dissolves in cold liquid. You will still need to heat the strawberries with the water and the sweetner
- Water – Water is part of making the simple syrup.
- Lemonade – You can make your own following our lemonade recipe, your own recipe, or just use store bought lemonade.
To make strawberry lemonade, you only need some basic kitchen supplies. These include:
How to Make This Strawberry Lemonade Recipe
1. Make the strawberry simple syrup.
Clean and quarter your strawberries and set aside.
Measure out equal portions of water and sugar and pour into a small pot.
While continously stirring with a whisk, heat the water and sugar over medium low heat.
This should take about 2 minutes.
Once the sugar dissolves, add in the quartered strawberries and continue to heat over medium-low.
Stirring frequently, keep cooking the strawberries until they start to break down and release their juices.
This takes about 10 minutes due the the overall toughness of strawberries.
Remove from heat, allow to cool for a few minutes, and strain the strawberries out of the syrup using a fine mesh, hand strainer into a measuring cup or mason jar.

2. Combine the strawberry simple syrup and lemonade.
This is the important part.
Pour your lemonade into a large pitcher.
We used about a half gallon.
Pour the strawberry simple syrup into the pitcher and give it a quick mix.
To serve, pour into glasses filled with some ice.
Here are detailed instructions on making your own lemonade.
Serving
Serve homemade strawberry lemonade with anything that you would serve regular lemonade with.
It is a refreshing and slightly sweeter version of lemonade.
You can dress up the glasses with fresh strawberries, mint leaves, lemon wedges, or a combination of these.
It’s light pink to red color works well as a patriotic drink for July 4th, Labor Day, or Memorial Day.
You can also use it as a base to make boozy strawberry lemonade slushies.
Storing
Strawberry lemonade should stay fresh in the fridge in an air tight container for about 5 to 7 days.
If you plan to store it, do not add any ice to the pitcher.
The ice will melt and water down the lemonade.
You can also freeze strawberry lemonade in an air tight container for up to a 1 year of freshness.
To use frozen lemonade, allow it to thaw for a day or two in the fridge and then serve as normal.
Tips and Tricks
- To add more strawberry flavor to the lemonade, either decrease the amount of lemonade you use or add more strawberry simple syrup.
- This recipe is easy to double and triple, just make sure to add porportional amounts.
- Do not use any heat higher than medium-low. You do not want the mixture to come to a hard boil. The sugar can caramalize, which you do not want to happen.
