I don’t know about by you, but where we are nice weather is taking its sweet time getting here.
We spent Memorial Day weekend inside in long pants and sweatshirts.
There were no barbecues or campfires.
It was too rainy and cool.
But if your kids are anything like mine, as soon as the days get even remotely longer, they are begging for s’mores.
They love having campfires in the firepit in our backyard and roasting marshmallows, and have been genuinely bummed that this bad stretch of weather has meant we’ve only gone out to do it once.
But!
I’m not a regular mom. I’m a *cool* mom.
And I will make them sheet pan s’mores in the oven as a treat anytime.
They are super easy, though admittedly not as fun as roasting a marshmallow on a stick over a fire.
But they need almost no prep, have a super easy clean up and are ready in about 5 minutes.
Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies
Here’s what you need to make sheet pan smores in the oven:
- Graham crackers– The sheets or – if you can find them- the ones that are already in squares.
- Chocolate bars– Hershey’s chocolate bars are classic but feel free to use any chocolate bar you like or even get wild and try a Reese’s cup.
- Marshmallows– The big ones.
Kitchen supplies are pretty minimal but you’ll want:
How to Make Sheet Pan Smores in the Oven
1. Assemble your smores.
Before you even think about doing anything, make sure to preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
As it heats, start to assemble your smores.
Carefully break each graham cracker in half to form squares.
We made eight, but you can make as many as you need to, it won’t change the bake time.
Place as many squares as you can either fit or want to make onto a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil, wax paper, or just right on the pan.
Next, place a small bar of chocolate on top of each graham cracker.
We used 1/4 of each regular sized Hershey’s bar with the 3 little full rectangles in a row.
Finally, place a marshmallow with a flat side down on top of each bar of chocolate.
Though you can place them on their side, we recommend placing on the round flat top or bottom to help prevent rolling when placing in the oven or taking out of the oven.
2. Bake the sheet pan smores.
Place the tray of smores in the oven and bake for about 5 minutes or until the top turns golden brown.
As long as you are not using a glass cooking pan, you can put them under a broiler for about 3 to 5 minutes to give them a charred top instead of golden brown.
Carefully remove the sheet pan of smores from the oven.
3. Top and serve.
After removing the sheet pan smores from the oven, place another square of graham cracker on top of each smore before the cool down too much.
Smoosh it down a bit, allowing the top to stick to the melted marshmallow.
You could also serve them open-face if you like, top with more chocolate, or add other toppings as you desire.
Serve warm and fresh from the oven.
Serving
Smores in the oven make a complete dessert and are perfect for cool, rainy or even snowy days anytime of year.
For some fun variations, you can try:
- use Oreo cookies as tops and bottoms
- try it with chocolate chip cookies
- serve them open-faced with sprinkles, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce on top
Storing
Are you nuts?
You really should eat the sheet pan smores right out of the oven.
I suppose if you really want to, you can place them in an airtight container and then reheat them for a few seconds in the microwave.
You can also serve them once they cool down for a sort of make shift cookie, though the marshmallow will get a bit hard and sticking.
If you do that, maybe you are not as crazy as you initially seem.
But seriously, they taste best when fresh.
Tips and Tricks
- For charred marshmallows, turn your broiler on high and place the sheet pan smores under the broiler on the top rack for about 3 to 5 minutes. You’ll want to keep an eye on them, checking every few seconds, because they can go from nicely charred to burned to a crisp really fast.
- If you find your chocolate burning, you can either reduce the heat to 375 or reduce the cooking time a bit. Keep in mind, ovens do vary some in how hot they get, so it may take a couple of batches to get the right mix of golden brown marshmallows and melted chocolate without burning anything.
- You can add festive sprinkles, chocolate shavings, whipped cream, or other fun toppings to your smores after you take them out of the oven.
