Ingredients for Sweet and Spicy Asian Coleslaw

You don’t need much to make this delicious coleslaw recipe. To make it, you need:

  • Coleslaw salad mix.ย You can find the coleslaw blend in the produce department of most grocery stores. If you can’t find a pre bagged coleslaw mix, cut a mix of purple and green cabbage into ribbons and toss the cabbage with matchstick carrots.
  • Honey. Honey provides the sweetness.
  • Sriracha.ย Sriracha gives the heat. Adjust the amount of sriracha to your taste.
  • Mayonnaise.ย You want real mayo here, not mayonnaise dressing for the best flavor.
  • Lime juice.ย The juice of half a lime gives this a lovely tangy brightness. Use fresh lime for best flavor.

This recipe is almost embarrassingly easy. You can make it even if you are not a cook. There’s no stove required, just two bowls and a whisk. That’s it! To make it, add the coleslaw mix to a big bowl. In a smaller bowl whisk together the honey, sriracha, mayo and lime juice.

We like to put this slaw on top of burgers particularly these pineapple barbecue burgers. It’s also really good on the side of almost any Asian inspired meat like these Thai peanut chicken skewers. Or you could include it as a side to this Thai peanut quinoa salad. So good.

Can I make this coleslaw ahead of time?

You can make the dressing a day in advance if you store it covered in the fridge in it’s own container. Don’t add the dressing to the coleslaw until right before serving or else the slaw will get watery.
