Ingredients

For the Apples

  • 2.5 pounds Granny Smith apples (roughly 7 to 10 or a 3 pound grocery store bag)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons corn sstarch

For the Crumble

  • 1 cup rolled or old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour (can use a gluten free version)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick butter (8 tablespoons)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Wash and cut your apples into smaller cubes. You can peel the apples if you like, but you do not have to.
  • Place the cut apples into a large bowl and then add the lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and corn starch to the bowl and mix to combine.
  • Spray a 9x13 or similar sized baking dish with non-stick spray and pour the prepared apples into it.
  • Set aside to prepare the crumble topping.
  • In a small bowl, gently whisk to combine the crumble dry ingredients and melt the butter in the microwave or stove top.
  • Pour the butter over the dry ingredients and mix to create a thick, chunky paste.
  • Spread the topping evenly over the top of the apples. You will notice some small gaps and holes. The topping does not fully cover the apples.
  • Place the apple crumble into the oven and bake, uncovered, for about 40 to 50 minutes.
  • The apple crumble is ready when the top is golden brown and the middle and sides are bubbly.
  • Allow to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
