Homemade Applesauce Recipe

Equipment

  • 1 peeler
  • 1 apple corer
  • 1 sauce pot
  • 1 potato masher

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds apples a tart apple like Granny Smith
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice bottled works fine
  • 1 /4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons sugar granulated or brown
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice or cinnamon

Instructions

  • Wash and peel the apples before using an apple corer to remove the apple cores and slice the apples.
  • Put the sliced peeled apples in a large pot. Add the lemon juice, tossing the apples to coat. Pour in the water.
  • Cook the apples over medium heat for 20 to 30 minutes or until the apples are fork tender and falling apart. Stir occasionally.
  • When the apples start to loose their form as you stir, remove them from the heat. Season them with sugar and apple pie spice or cinnamon if desired.
  • Use a potato masher to mash the apples into your desired consistency.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

The sugar and apple pie spice are both optional and to taste.
