1 peeler
1 apple corer
1 sauce pot
1 potato masher
- 5 pounds apples a tart apple like Granny Smith
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice bottled works fine
- 1 /4 cup water
- 3 tablespoons sugar granulated or brown
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice or cinnamon
Wash and peel the apples before using an apple corer to remove the apple cores and slice the apples.
Put the sliced peeled apples in a large pot. Add the lemon juice, tossing the apples to coat. Pour in the water.
Cook the apples over medium heat for 20 to 30 minutes or until the apples are fork tender and falling apart. Stir occasionally.
When the apples start to loose their form as you stir, remove them from the heat. Season them with sugar and apple pie spice or cinnamon if desired.
Use a potato masher to mash the apples into your desired consistency.
Serve and enjoy!
The sugar and apple pie spice are both optional and to taste.
