Equipment

  • 1 large, deep skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can tomato puree
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper
  • 4-6 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons pasta water
  • 1 pound spaghetti (can use any noodles you like)

Instructions

  • Prepare your pasta according to the package instructions.
  • As the water comes to a boil, prepare the meat sauce.
  • Heat olive oil over medium heat and spread it around your skillet.
  • Add in the ground beef and break it apart with a spatula.
  • Spread the ground beef around the skillet and top with the herbs and spices.
  • Mix the ground beef as it cooks with the spice blends until well coated.
  • Continue to cook until the beef has fully browned.
  • If using a higher fat cut, drain some of the fat off, otherwise, pour the puree directly over the browned meat.
  • Stir to combine and allow to come to a simmer.
  • Add in crushed garlic and stir to combine.
  • Cook for about 1 to 2 minutes and then add in the parmesan cheese.
  • If needed, add a few tablespoons of pasta water to help thin out the sauce. If you like it thicker, you can skip this step.
  • Drain and plate your pasta in indivdual bowls or plates and top with meat sauce. Top with more cheese as desired.
