I’m always looking for ways to add a little extra pizzazz to my holiday season.

Yes, I just unironically used the word pizzazz and may have even done jazz hands while typing it.

When I was younger, we always had huge holiday gatherings.

And my one aunt who couldn’t cook would always be the self appointed pizzazz bringer.

Basically she’d bring the cheese and crackers, the festive napkins, the bubbly, and the butter.

The butter was always either shaped like a turkey or Christmas tree unless it was flavored.

The flavored butter was hands down my favorite.

And it’s incredibly easy to make a tart, sweet buttery spread perfect for smearing on your holiday rolls or even to make a piece of breakfast toast feel a little special.

That’s exactly the kind of pizzazz I want to start my November and December days.

Whipped Cranberry Butter Ingredients: Butter, Honey, Cranberry Sauce, and Orange Zest
  • Butter– Salted or unsalted. Let it soften to room temperature first to make it easier to blend other flavors in.
  • Honey– For sweetness.
  • Cranberry sauce– Leftover cranberry sauce works well. It can be jellied or whole berry sauce since you’ll be putting it in the food processor.
  • Orange zest– Optional but it adds a really nice brightness to balance the sweet and it does taste that much more like the holiday season with the orange zest.

Freezing Instructions

To freeze it, transfer it to a freezer-safe container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap before putting it in a ziplocking freezer bag.

You can also scoop it into an ice cube tray to divide it into individual servings before freezing.

When you’re ready to use frozen cranberry butter, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator.

Tips and Tricks

  • Let it sit at room temperature for about 10 to 15 minutes before serving so it softens enough to spread easily.
  • Don’t have a food processor? You can also whip the ingredients together in a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.
  • It really does help to let the butter soften to room temperature before you whip the ingredients together.
  • Make sure the cranberry sauce is cooled if you are using homemade cranberry sauce. If you use warm sauce it will melt the butter.
  • Let the cranberry butter soften on the counter for 15 minutes or so prior to spreading it so it spreads smoothly.
